Hi Everyone, regular readers and new ones.
I´m writing to you as the second week of confinement in Spain is coming to an end.
The News says we are near the peak of infection and as such we should see a fall in new infections after this point soon.
As I´m not a doctor or virologist or anything that is near to these professions, I will be limiting myself to keep talking about what I do know something about.
Today´s blog is about keeping your state, what to do if you are standing on the edge of a rabbit hole, how to not fall in or not go in too deep. Being responsible for your own mental health as these are stressful times.
The uncertainty can be a challenge for many, how do you adapt to uncertain times?
The thing is that our brains are programmed to look for patterns and when we are faced with unprecedented occurrences, we look for answers and maybe what we could be looking for is asking questions.
I have seen so many publications about what the world will look like after all this is over, the thing is we do not know. One thing I do know is that fatalistic predictions by philosophers, politicians, ecologists, religious groups etc only creates more fear, which in return lowers your immune system.
So, here is what I do to keep my state and thereby my immune system so I can be the rock and reference point for my daughter and the people who have contacted me for help to return to their own centre (for which I don’t charge at the moment)
Here is what I do: I breathe, yes, I know it sounds very obvious but if you take some time to focus on your breathing you will notice that you can change your state. You take a deep breath, while you count to four, then you hold the air in, counting to four, and then you exhale counting to four and you keep your lungs empty counting to four, before you inhale counting to four etc.
Doing this standing up, sitting down or lying down, you will notice some changes in your body and your posture will change. And when you look up and smile you will tell your brain that you are happy.
Yes, when we smile, we send a signal to our brain that we are happy, and it will release the chemistry accordingly.
As you walk around your house keep your back straight and your shoulders back and lift your feet, and you smile and breathe, that is right.
listening to uplifting music, watching what you watch, keeping up to date with the most essential news, by reading newspapers.
I get a lot of info on WhatsApp and I just don’t open it anymore. I only pay attention to the messages that are personal, the mass send memes has no use for me at this moment in time.
Suddenly, I only got things that were circulating on WhatsApp, a quick press on the phone and it was passed on, but did you take the time to write a message asking how someone is doing instead?
And then be kind, pay special attention to what the people around you need and appreciate, being kind to other people is innate, we know that from studying babies.
Being kind and helpful to others is part of our own state and feeling of well-being.
I wish you all the best in these challenging times, I hope we can rise together, remember even during economic uncertainties being kind is free.
